Artist Statement

Kevin Morrissey’s paintings are a reaction to growing up in the south; based on events from being a wide eyed playful little boy, angst ridden teenager, and young man looking to settle down.

The surface preparation and backgrounds are an important part to the works as they are carefully constructed and deconstructed to resemble the remnants of an agricultural and industrial presence in the south.

Kevin uses southern iconography to tell partial stories of his hopes and fears as he searches for identity. Kevin’s paintings are as much about him and his search for identity as they are about changes in his southern home.
